Tokyo Police Club - Smith EP

I love Tokyo Police Club for their creativity. Sure, they may sound like some shitty garge band that gets stoned before jamming but you know what... More power to 'em. The music makes me want to shake my ass, throw a fist in the air, shout along and punch a guy with a bowl cut wearing a muscle shirt in the face. carefully constructed rythms, im not sure the guitar parts are all that difficult but they certainly are not anything short of amazing, the drumming is simple but danceable... the noise they make is beautiful, this reminds me of a Kurt Cobain side project if he really didnt own a gun and he were less strung out. Tokyo Police Club are quickly growing to be on my favorite artist's list, i just cant wait for another album, im hopeing this is not a b-sides EP but more of a statement that says "TPC aint nothin to fuck wit!"

Los Campesinos - Hold On Now Youngster(2008)

To be quite honest when I had first heard Los Campesinos i was a little skeptical listeing to a french pop-punk band but its not so pop punky... its very much a punk album, the lyrics are smart and witty, the guitars are raw, its semi fast (i dont typically listen to much punk to know what all of it sounds like or how fast it generally is.) The rythms are so precise that you want to grab your girl (or someone elses) and start dancing till the whole cd is done. If you grabbed someone elses girl to start dancing, it also makes for a good cd to kick some ass to and run off with a pretty young thing.

Edan - Beauty and the Beat

Okay, so here's to diversity. I cant necessarily come up with any better description of Edan other than its just "fucking amazing" old school-ish sounding hip hop. The lyricism is immaculate and on fucking point, the beats are fresh and the originality is priceless. I've had this cd on my ipod for about a year or two now and it never gets old. Everything from the samples, the beats, the lyrics... just incredible and untouchable. Edan have a sound of their own that is so unique and if this were the source i'd give this cd 5 mic's in a heartbeat, but its not so i'll just put this cd on here for your listening pleasure because i think you should hear it and if i think you should hear it, it must be damn good.

Juno Soundtrack(2008)

Again i wont lie, i havent seen the movie... I think i'd rather read the book. Oh wait there's no book? damn... oh well. I will admit to this though... I am in love with this soundtrack. It has alot of masterpiece anti-folk songs on here, ranging from Kimya Dawson (who is all over this thing), Belle and Sebastion to Sonic Youth's amazing cover of the Carpenters song Superstar you know the one David Spade and Chris Farley sing in Tommy Boy... "dont you remember when i said that i loved you baby..." however this version sounds nothing like two grown men crying in a convertible. This cd has alot of gems like my personal favorite song i'd love to sing out of key like the Moldy Peaches "anyone else but you," and proves to be a great mix for a rainy day, a sunny day, a broken heart, a mix tape for that girl that sits behind you in biology with the baby blues and those immaculate lips and that fat ass... mmmmm biology girl this ones for you.

Destroyer - Trouble In Dreams(2008)

I first heard of Destroyer sometime last year with the release of "Destroyers Rubies." When i first heard the record I think it was in heavy rotation on my ipod for a solid 3 or 4 weeks. Now, here we are in 2008 and I think i was looking up information for Wolf Parades new album and I stumbled across a wikipedia article on Dan Bejars new album "Trouble In Dreams," me being the impatient fuck I am I had to hunt this one down. I listened to it and could recognize the awkward sounding voice and incredible lyricism of Dan Bejar immediately. I am ultimately always impressed by anything Destroyer puts out, this cd is no different. There are more electric guitar parts and more instruments on this cd than "Rubies" it doesnt make a difference to me though. This is still a solid release from one of my most well respected favorites. Its still painfully obvious this is a destroyer album, it has subtle differences but stays true to its roots which I've fallen in love with. I am excited for new stuff from Dan Bejar and his other projects. I think 2008 holds some of the most anticipated releases and if this any indication then I am damned excited!

i couldnt find album art for this cd seeing as how it is to be released later this year, so please click on the picture for the download.

Autolux - Future Perfect

Let me tell you a story about the first time i was introduced to marijuana. It was a warm day in may, we were driving in my friends white ford focus (god bless aaron and his damn ford focus) we'd just gone all the way out to some rural middle of bum fuck neighborhood to score some pot and on the way back we decided we were going to smoke that shit. Nobody had a piece and all we could find was an old orange soda can that had most likely been in the car for days. That being said the sun was setting, we were wizzing by farm after farm, listening to this great fucking cd that seemed to never end. Every song seemed to collide in a good way into the next. I had my window of the backseat down, my hair blowing in the wind god damn i was feeling GREAT! nothing could stop us and if it could I wouldnt have cared one way or the other. I asked my friend "hey aaron who is this?" To which i got the best reply possible "man this is fucking autolux." "Well turn that shit up man," i remember saying. The song that stood out the most was "asleep at the trigger" which i searched high and low for on youtube to find a video for and thank god i did because if you've never heard autolux before you are truely missing out. It sounds relatively cheesy to say but this is one of those cds that could never get old for me and i find myself re-living the past with every song. The smell of the weed, febreezed soaked leather seats, remembering the skyline... The whole nine yards. The setup for Autolux is quite minimalist, but the sound is large, the noises are incredible and this is dream pop at its best. I thought this was one of those cds you could only listen to if you were high and I'm proving myself wrong all the time.
